Art x Fashion Edit #39
It is a gloomy Summer we are currently experiencing in Paris. The temperature does not go above 20 celsius but at least it, somehow, stopped raining. It is also a weird Summer: because the Olympics are coming, the city is planned to be pretty empty until July 26th when they start. Paris currently feels like August.
I personally love the month of August, I usually spend it between the city and Normandy, where we have a family house. Georges Braque’s Harbor in Normandy, therefore, particularly speaks to me. Indeed, I can testify that even in the middle of the Summer, the Channel can be capricious and the sky can be particularly gloomy. Braque’s cubic shapes also draw the shadow of a sailing boat, merging with the coast. I spent hours sailing during the Normand Summer.
Georges Braque is often considered a follower of Pablo Picasso in his Cubist endeavor, but they indeed invented the movement together and fed from each other theories and research at the inception of the 20th century. This painting from 1909 is still exploratory and both would move further in the deconstruction of shapes and movements.
Braque’s colors inspired me a beach-to-the-city outfit, with muted colors and staple basics. Plug and play pieces that can be brought into the next season or upgraded with a tailored blazer…
