Art x Oufit Edit #32
David Smith was one of the leading artist of the Abstract Expressionist movement. ‘Sculpture,’ wrote David Smith in 1951, ‘is as free as the mind; as complex as life’. Smith is famous for his work on steel, a skill he honed working in a car factory. His inspirations are deeply rooted in Cubism and Russian Constructivism which he was exposed to as a student at the Art Students League in New York.
His work evolved from a collection of a variety of objects assembled to tell a story to abstract geometric pieces interacting with the space they are in. Sculptures become “drawings in space”, heavily inspired by Masson’s automatic drawing and his surrealist willingness to transcend life’s materiality and blend the boundaries between dreams and reality.
The sculpture Untitled (Candida) from 1965, installed at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, frames the landscape. The changing seasons or viewpoint completely reinvent the work every time offering a form of versatility and a range as wide as human emotions.
In our time and age, what better way to express human emotions than emojis, and what more fashionable way to use emojis than by wearing them. But of course, interactions are the core of emotions, and composing is as essential to manage other people’s (and our own’s) feelings as to pull a great look. Enjoy!!
