Art x Outfit Edit #26
It is mid-October, no occasion for another two weeks at least. Well, whatever, you and I do not need an occasion to look grand.
Grand, that is what I think every time I see one of Kapoor’s work. Anish Kapoor is famous for his large scale public art pieces, like The Bean in Chicago. But he is also known for his smaller scale artworks like his curved mirrors that are an invitation to introspection.
Sometimes blue, red, or grey, they distort what they reflect and force the viewer to look at things differently. Reality is a question of perception.
In Random Triangle Mirror from 2018, the plane is broken into a multitude of small squares, multiplicating the reflections and creating a tension between the circle and the squares. Yet, because the squares are so small, the curvature of the plane makes them reflect one another instead of the viewer.
The image is broken, like a proto-reference to cubism. At the same time, the mirror loses its primary function of reflection and appears empty. Multitude undermines uniqueness, and the noise can prevent us from taking a step back and looking in the mirror to understand our own selves.
But, if you want to stand out, I have just what you need. No risk of not being seen with a Paco dress…
