The Birth of Venus

Fashion x Art Edit #5

I probably owe it to Queen Bey to have taken a trip down Art Historical Renaissance icons (among other things, but don’t we all owe her something?).

The matter is, with the comeback of Y2K fashion and the rise of resale platforms, the overall zeitgest for renewal increasingly features a twist. Responsible consumption and sustainability are front and center in luxury fashion’s discourses. Coming back to classical icons therefore appears to go hand in hand with a global mindset shift when it comes to the sense of newness. Maybe it can just be a new way to pair, mix and match, and wear what we already own, not only in terms of products but also of designs and iconographic references. Arguably, though, classics never really go out of style and are immune to these considerations. So, here’s to mixing a few classics.
